Courses

Throughout your service in the Army Reserve you will be given the opportunity to complete military courses. These courses will be useful to you both in the army and in civilian life. These courses range in length and difficulty but at the end are all rewarding. Also a number of courses conducted by the army are recognised by civilian employment.

Types of Basic Courses

After completing your Recruit and IET courses there so many other courses within the Battalion you will be able to conduct. Some of these courses are run locally and others are inter-state. For example:

Signals courses - there are different levels of courses starting with basic communications and using a radio up to planning communications nets within the Battalion.

Ready Reserve Force - This course will teach you skills in low level operetions. Basicaly you will be taught in ways the Defence can assist the civil comunity. This may be due to disaster releief up to assisting in major community activities (Security for Govement Summits, high profile visit ect). Qualified soldiers are paid an extra $700 per year for there commitment.

High Readiness Reserve - These are reserve soldiers who are trained to a higher level with additional skills, whom volunteer to work on a higher readiness. This soldiers may be called out to assist the local governments or be deployed overseas, these soldiers are awarded many benifits over a contracted period.

Drivers courses - you can learn how to drive military vehicles in an on or off road capacity.


Promotional Courses

After being in the Army Reserves for a period of time you may be offered the opportunity to conduct promotional course so you that can progress through the ranks. To be promoted and lead soldiers you will need to complete these courses. For example:

? Subject 1 and 2 for Corporal - these course allow you to be promoted to the ranks of Lance Corporal (LCPL) the first promotion and then to Corporal (CPL) a section commander in charge of a nine man group.
? Subject 1 and 2 for Sergeant

Officers may do similar courses both locally and at RMC for their progression through the ranks.
