Commander's words:-

CO 1 RAR COMMAND PHILOSOPHY 2004-05

1. Mission. On order, 1 RAR is to conduct infantry battalion land operations in order to engage the enemy in close combat.

2. 1 RAR is to concentrate on two fundamental outputs:
a. Readiness, and
b. Warfighting.

3. Vision. 1 RAR is to remain the core of the ADF's pre-eminent manoeuvre Battlegroup capable of conducting high intensity warfighting in complex environments. 1 RAR's command, operations, training, resources, and administration are to be continuously focussed on Readiness and Warfighting IOT achieve our Mission Essential Tasks and to ensure that we are ready to fight when required by the Government of Australia.
4. 1 RAR is to fight using manoeuvre warfare as our guiding doctrine. To that end, we have seven objectives:

a. We are to be Battle Fit,

b. We are to be Battle Shots,

c. We are to be Battle Smart,

d. We are to be Battle Leaders,

e. We are to support Family Readiness,

f. We are to give people a 'Fair Go,' and

g. We are to care for our Soldiers.
