Courses

Courses are an important part of an individual's military career and all efforts will be made to ensure the needs of all the unit members are met. This page details the process and administrative requirements for a member to be nominated and panelled to successfully attend a course.

Course List

A detailed Course List (CL) is available to members in the monthly unit newsletter, "The Bullsheet". A summary course list (containing only course names and dates) is attached below. The Course Lists are updated Monthly. Members are only to nominate or be nominated for courses which are on the CL. Any application for a course not deemed mission critical will be denied

Member Responsibilities.

No nomination is to be submitted to TP/SQN Staff without all the following member responsibilities being met:

  1. be AIRN compliant;
  2. have civilian employer authority to be released from civilian employment for the course duration;
  3. have PMKeys evidence satisfying the stipulated pre-requisite competencies detailed for the course;
  4. complete a course nomination form (annex B) and submit to TP Staff. Only one nomination form is to be completed per course; and
  5. or all Driver courses, the member is to identify an Army Driving Instructor (ADI) who is available for the course.

TP Staff Responsibilities

TP Staff are to ensure the following actions occur prior to submitting a nomination form to the RHQ OPSWO:

  1. confirm member is AIRN compliant, if not compliant, the member is to be counselled and form cancelled;
  2. for promotion courses TP Staff must obtain the RSM approval signature on the nomination form, and if applicable the CO's approval (SGT promotion courses and above);
  3. confirm the member has sufficient balance of ARTS available to attend the course;
  4. where multiple members have submitted nomination forms for a course, TP Staff are to determine priority of attendance and indicate on the nomination form; and
  5. authorise and submit completed nomination forms to the OPSWO only.

OPS Cell Resonsibilities

The OPS cell is to ensure the following actions occur following receipt of a nomination form:

  1. nominate the member using PMKeys;
  2. place copy of the member's course nomination form in the OPS Courses folder;
  3. email the member and the respective supervisor / chain of command (CofC) of the member being PMKeys panelled; and
  4. update the Course Matrix List with the member's nomination.

Course Panelling.

The course panel is released, via signal, by the course manager/SCMA approximately 6 weeks prior to course. Concurrently the members PMKeys Training History will be updated enabling the member to view his course statues. On receipt of a course panelling signal, the following actions are to occur:

  1. OPSWO is to advise the members CofC of the member's panel status;
  2. OPSWO is to advise the RSM/ADJT for career courses of the member's panel status;
  3. OPSWO is to update the Course Matrix with member's panel status;
  4. TP Staff are to notify the member of their panel status;
  5. the member is responsible for attaining and completing all joining instructions;
  6. the member is responsible for the organising of movements via RHQ OPS; and
  7. the SQN Clerks are to issue any and all required documents for the course as outlined in the joining instruction.

Course Attendance

Following the completion of any course, the course manager will issue a Record of Attainment (ROA) and will update PMKeys with the competencies obtained. The member should also be provided with a signed ROA. This is to be handed to the OPSWO and subsequently placed in the member's personnel file.

Withdrawal Prior To Departure.

If a member is unable to attend a course for which they have been panelled, they must write and submit a minute to the RSM, IAW ADFP 102, via their chain of command, stating reasons why the course cannot be attended. Non attendance on courses is taken very seriously and members must make every attempt to manage their affairs to ensure they are able to attend nominated courses.

Repeated and/or short notice withdrawals, without good reason, will affect the member's chances of being considered a priority for courses in the future.

Conclusion

The timely and efficient management of responsibilities by members, TP staff and the OPS cell will ensure that members are given the best opportunity to be adequately prepared for courses and successfully advance their military careers.
