Welcome to the 2nd/14th Light Horse Regiment (Queensland Mounted Infantry) homepage. Originally formed in February 1860, the regiment is the oldest continuously serving unit in the Australian Army. The Queensland Mounted Infantry’s reputation was established during the Shearer’s strike of 1891, and that reputation was continually enhanced throughout the Boer War, World War I and World War II. During the life of the Regiment there have been many changes: alterations to the unit’s title, conversion from mounted infantry to Lighthorsemen and eventually mechanisation, and the integration of regular and reserve forces. Throughout, we have remained ‘one team’ focussed on looking after our soldiers, their families and their interests.
Today, the unit represents a potent military capability responsible for seeking-out the enemy or identifying the enemy’s weaknesses. By combining the stealth of our dismounted reconnaissance scouts with the firepower, mobility and protection of armoured light reconnaissance vehicles we are able to disperse widely or concentrate rapidly to achieve the commander’s requirements. This capability will be greatly enhanced in the years to come as it converts from the M113A1 family of vehicles to the Australian made Australian Light Armoured Vehicle (ASLAV) in the 2001-2004 timeframe.
I hope you enjoy our excursion into cyberspace and that you can provide us with feedback on how we can improve this homepage.
