There are full time and part time career opportunities for both males and females within 51 FNQR.
Regional Force Surveillance Units have a mix of full and part time soldiers. Full time soldiers provide some of the command, specialist and training functions in 51 FNQR. There are full time positions for most ranks of infantrymen, intelligence operators and signallers.
51 FNQR exposes regular soldiers to experiences and challenges not normally associated with peace time soldiering in the regular Army. These include cross cultural communications, working in Australia's most remote areas and dealing with real time operational and emergency situations.
Part
time soldiers provide the backbone of the patrolling capability and some of
the specialist capability. The concept is to employ local people with existing
knowledge of the land and make them soldiers. 51 FNQR part time soldiers are
committed to the Army. They undertake a wide range of general and specialist
military courses, and many of the unit's part time soldiers come from indigenous
communities.
Part time career streams within the Battalion potentially allow soldiers to reach the rank of Warrant Officer Class Two, and Officers to reach the rank of Major. If you live in the Far North Queensland area and are interested in a part time career in 51 FNQR you should contact Defence Recruiting on Phone: 13 19 01, or visit the unit.
