City to Surf Gun Run
The "City to Surf" is a popular road running event held annually in Perth, Western Australia. The event is both a "fun run" and a race, attracting both serious runners and community participants who can choose to run or walk. The 2011 event is expecting to attract over 35,000 people and will be run on 28th August 2011.
7th Field Battery Royal Australian Artillery is a reserve unit of 13th Brigade from Karrakatta and is entering a team of twenty runners who will complete the course with an M2A2 Field Artillery Howitzer weighing approximately 2 ton.
The aim of the "Gun run" is mainly to raise funds for CanTeen which is a charity for the relief of cancer in young people, as well provide a challenge for serving members, in line with unit "Esprit de corps"
The battery also intends to run additional fund raising events including a corporate golf day at Hartfield Golf Course on 19th August 2011. The event will be started with the firing of the gun that will be run over the City to Surf route, and will finish off with a raffle
This is the first time such an event has been conducted by army units in WA, the gun team aims to illustrate the army maxim of "Challenge yourself" and the use of the gun is an excellent showcase for 7th Field Battery, 13 Brigade and Army and an opportunity for local businesses to show support to the defence community and raising funds for a worthy cause.
How you can help
7th Field Battery would like to invite you to support our efforts in raising funds for a very worthwhile cause. To that end could you take the time to complete the form on our every day hero web page
