Equipment matters
Thank you to those members who have returned gear to me. There is still quite a bit of equipment outstanding, some dating back to early 2005. I would like to get as much equipment returned as soon as possible in order to accurately assess what needs to be updated.
To return equipment, all you need to do is box or package it and take it to a unit Freight Distribution Centre (FDC). If your location doesn't have a FDC, the equipment can be sent by Toll-IPEC. If your Q Store is sending the equipment by Toll-IPEC, contact me and I can provide you with an account code. Send me an email to let me know that you have forwarded the equipment. Provide me with the CVS Tracking or Consignment Number so that I can follow up if the equipment goes astray.
There have been a couple of small changes with regards to the management and issue of some equipment items. The AAA purchased a lead climbing rack at the end of 2005. [See the table below]
The equipment that is shaded will be sold by sealed bid. If you want any info on the specific items, give me a call. There is more equipment from the store that will go up for bidding. Once I have a consolidated list, a notice will go out to all members with a closing date and the procedure for submitting bids.
The lead rack listed above will be issued as a complete rack for short periods only i.e. weekend/long weekend for Canberra-based climbing activities only. There is also another older lead rack that has basic lead climbing hardware. It is not a comprehensive lead rack and can be issued as individual items.
To ensure that the AAA is meeting duty of care responsibilities, the lead rack will only be issued to AAA members who:
- can provide evidence of a current lead climbing UATL qualification or civilian equivalent; or
- are authorised in writing by the AAA president or a lead climbing assessor.
AAA members being issued the lead rack will be asked to acknowledge that the rack is for their use only. You will also need to provide your own rope. The AAA will only purchase and/or issue rope for expeditions.
