News - Adelaide Universities Regiment

The activities marked on the training program are obligatory for all AUR personnel. Personnel absent from obligatory activities without approved leave are liable to disciplinary and/or administrative action. Additional obligatory activities that do not appear on this program will be published in routine orders.

Additional, non-obligatory, activities may be programmed during the training year. Members will be notified via their chain of command. Attendance at these activities is encouraged but not obligatory.

Parade times. Except when Joining Instructions state differently the following parade timings apply:

Weekday parade night 1900 h to 2200 h,
Training weekends 1900 h Friday to 1900 h Sunday.

Minimum service. The minimum annual service that a AAR member may render is 26 days. Members who provide less than this minimum level are deemed non efficient and are liable for discharge pursuant to Regulation 87 (1)(j).
Maximum service. Although there is no set maximum period of Reserve service that can be rendered per financial year, approval is required from CO AUR for members to undertake more than 100 days. Detailed justification is required by Brigade headquarters before approval is granted if members are required to undertake more than 100 days per financial year.
Effective service. Personnel who are absent without approved leave for three or more consecutive obligatory activities without approved leave are deemed non effective and are liable for discharge pursuant to Regulation 87 (1)(j).

Leave

Members are to submit an ADF leave application (AD 097) via their chain of command when they want to be released from an obligatory activity. It would be unusual for leave to be refused. Late notice requests for leave can be made and approved verbally (telephone numbers are provided in the Unit Contacts area); a written application is to be submitted at the next opportunity.

Army Individual Readiness Notice (AIRN)

In accordance with DI(A)OPS 80-1 it is an individuals responsibility to ensure that they remain AIRN compliant at all times. Personnel who do not comply with this requirement can be subject to disciplinary and/or administrative action leading to their discharge.
Members undergoing initial training (recruit, IET or FAC) are not subject to the requirements of AIRN.

Drugs

The use of illicit drugs and the abuse of legal drugs poses a continuing threat to Army's ability to generate capability as it undermines safety, morale, security, and the public perception of the Army. Drug involvement leads to reduced performance, health impairment, presents a security risk and has the potential to put an individual and/or other personnel at unnecessary risk.
Involvement with illegal drugs by members of the ADF is not condoned. Disciplinary and/or administrative action that may result in termination of a member's appointment or discharge is to be initiated against any member involved with illegal drugs.
It is Army policy to encourage members to maintain a responsible attitude to the consumption of alcohol. The Army will not retain members who repeatedly misuse alcohol, members who refuse treatment for alcohol misuse, or members who fail to complete an alcohol counselling or rehabilitation program when ordered.
Defence is authorised to conduct random and targeted illicit drug testing on all members. Although a member cannot be compelled to provide a specimen failure to comply with an order to do so will result in administrative action and subsequent flagging of the members for targeted testing.

Media

Defence members are free to respond to media inquiries regarding their area of expertise provided they have sought agreement through their chain of command or supervisor. The point of contact for members of AUR is the Adjutant.
Defence members making public comment must not exceed their area of experience, expertise and responsibilities. They are to distinguish carefully between personal and official views and acknowledge they may not be aware of all relevant factors.

Personal details

The ADF requires members to notify their unit when their personal details change for updating on the PMKeys Personnel Management System. Specifically members are required to update AUR via their chain of command if the following details change:
a. Address, telephone and other contact details,
b. Next of kin and emergency contact information,
c. Bank account details for payment of GRES salaries.

Pay and allowances

GRES members are entitled to tax-exempt pay and allowances for rendering authorised Reserve service. All activities on this Parade Card are authorised. Other authorised activities are promulgated via the chain of command. Payment is made monthly by direct deposit to a nominated account.

Routine orders

AUR Routine Orders contain information which effects the members obligatory service requirements. Routine Orders are available at all unit locations. It is the members responsibility to read Routine Orders.
