The charter of the Royal Military College of Australia is to prepare cadets and other selected candidates for careers in the Army, by promoting leardership and integrity, by inspiring high ideals and the pursuit of excellence, and by inculcating a sense of duty, loyalty and service to the nation.

The establishment of RMC consists of:

  • Headquarters RMC - including the Commandant (COMDT), Director of Military Art (DMA)and the Director of Army Reserve Training (DART);
  • Military Art and Training Wing;
  • Army Reserve Training Development Wing; and
  • the Corps of Staff Cadets which consists of the five cadet Companies.



RMC is responsible for the conduct of the following courses:

  • The Full Time General Service Officer First Appointment Course (FT GSO FAC),
  • The Army Reserve General Service Officer First Appointment Course (ARES GSO FAC),
  • The Specialist Service Officer First Appointment Course (SSO), and
  • ADFA Single Service Training (SST).

LONG TAN COMPANY

THE BATTLE
The battle of Long Tan took place during the Vietnam War on 18 Aug 1966. Delta Company 6 RAR, in attempting to clear the Long Tan rubber plantation, came into contact with a force estimated at 2500 men of 274 VC Regt. The Company suffered attack after attack. For its epic stand against a far numerically superior enemy, Delta Coy was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation (Army) for extraordinary heroism by President Lyndon Johnson.

THE COMPANY
Long Tan has a Bengal Tiger as the Company mascot which is located at the Canberra Zoo and Aquarium.

The Company colour is yellow.


KOKODA COMPANY


THE BATTLE
The battle of Kokoda took place over the rugged Kokoda Trail during the period July - November 1942. The initial Japanese advance from Buna on the north coast of New Guinea, surprised the Australians who were forced to fight a difficult withdrawal over the Kokoda Trail to Imita Ridge (48 kilometres from Port Moresby). At this point, the Australians took the offensive and forced the resisting Japanese back over the Trail to Buna.

THE COMPANY
The Kokoda Company mascot is The Dogs closely associated with the Company motto "Cry Havoc! and let slip the dogs of war!" taken from Shakespeare's "Julius Caesar".

The Company colour is green.


ALAMEIN COMPANY


THE BATTLE
The battle of Alamein, 23 October to 4 November 1942, was the decisive battle in North Africa. The 8th Army commanded by General Montgomery defeated the Axis armies and ended any threat to British superiority in the Middle East. The Australian 9th Division under Major General Morshead played a major part in this battle, as part of the 8th Army.

THE COMPANY
Alamein Company has the Running Man and Scorpion as their proud mascots. The Alamein motto is "Hold Firm".

The Company colour is maroon.


GALLIPOLI COMPANY


THE BATTLE

The Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey was the scene of landings by Australian, New Zealand and British forces on 25 April 1915. During this campaign the ANZAC tradition of Australian and New Zealand troops fighting together began. It was here that Major General Sir William Throsby Bridges, KCB, CMG, Commander of the 1st AIF and first Commandant of RMC, received wounds from which he subsequently died on board the hospital ship HMHS Gascon.

THE COMPANY
Gallipoli Company has the Michelin Man as the Company mascot. Gallipoli has the motto "Beach Sprint champions since 1915".

The Company colour is light blue.


KAPYONG COMPANY


THE BATTLE

The battle of Kapyong took place in the Korean War during the Chinese Fifth Phase Offensive. In this battle, which commenced on 23 April 1951 and ended on 24 April 1951, 3 RAR, under Lieutenant Colonel I.B. Ferguson, MC (later awarded DSO), distinguished themselves by their spirited defence against the advancing Chinese. For its stand and successful withdrawal 3 RAR was awarded the United States Distinguished Unit Citation (the equivalent of a unit VC).

THE COMPANY
Kapyong Company has the Fighting Rat as the Company Mascot. Known affectionately as 'The Rats', Kapyong prides itself on its high Company morale and faith in the Rat.

The Company colour is black.
