Royal Australian Army Pay Corps
![]() Five hundred years before Christ, the Greeks found it difficult to pay their soldiers efficiently. The Romans, who employed many mercenaries in their Imperial Armies, also realised that loyalty and efficiency of such troops had to be bought. Both Empires therefore made a profound effort to ensure that their pay system worked well. |
The Royal Australian Army Pay Corps provides the finance and pay services essential to the day to day management of the Army and the morale of soldiers. The Australian Army Pay Corps was raised in September 1914 to handle the pay and financial matters for the Australian Imperial Force. It was disbanded following World War 1 and then reformed and disbanded for the period of World War 2. In 1948, the Corps was reformed and was granted the prefix of "Royal" in recognition of its service to the 2nd AIF, thus becoming the RAAPC as it is known today. |
