Description
Building A1 is an L-shaped complex constructed in three sections in 1886, 1899 and 1900. Its original use was as an armoury and for stores. It was built on the site of the former stables and harness rooms, which were built in 1886. A feature of the building is a hand operated hoist, which permitted stores to be lifted to all floors via the stair well.
The two-level middle section was built in 1886 for use as a Tailor's Quarters, tailors rooms, armoury and store. The other two-level section was built in 1899 comprising a store on the lower level and armoury with two offices on the upper floor.
It was connected by a bridge to the upper level of the section completed in 1886. Some time later the gap between the latter two buildings was built in.
The lower levels of the building now house a recreation room and the National Headquarters of the Everyman's Welfare Service. The upper two levels are used for office accommodation by the Army Personnel Agency (Brisbane)
