Mess Facilities

The Mess

The Mess is situated over two floors in the northern end of G BlockVictoria Barracks Melbourne at 256-310 St Kilda Road, Southbank, Victoria. It operates from Monday to Friday, except for functions that may be scheduled outside these times and does not have any live-in accommodation. The main entrance is on the ground floor facing the parade ground.

Billiard Room

The Billiard Room is located on the ground floor next to the Mess Office and contains a full size billiard table for the use of members.

Bistro

The Bistro is located on the ground floor and is across the corridor from the Billiard Room. The Bistro remains a popular spot for casual lunchtime dining and is open every weekday except during the Monthly Buffet. Selections include hot meals, salads and sandwiches. Large groups are welcome but must advise the Mess on ext: 26370 to ensure adequate catering.

Ante Room

The Ante Room is on the lower ground floor of the Mess and is accessed from the stairs inside the main entrance or through the Courtyard. It is the main bar and lounge area of the Mes and is adjacent to the Dining Room. It is also used for dinners of up to 100 people that cannot fit into the Dining Room.

Dining Room

The Dining Room is located on the lower ground floor and is accessed through the Ante Room. It seats approximately 40 people. Fine dining is available between 1215 and 1400 hrs. Reservations are normally required by 1600 hrs the day before unless other arrangements have been made with the Mess Manager. Larger groups should notify the Mess a few days prior. Diners are requested to be seated NLT 1300 hrs.

Courtyard

The Courtyard is adjacent to the Ante Room and provides an open area with a BBQ, tables and chairs.

Amenties

A cloakroom and a ladies toilet are located on the ground floor just inside the main entrance. There is a mens toilet and shower through the Robertson Room. There is also a mens and ladies toilet adjacent to the Courtyard.

Mess Office

The Mess Office is located on the left just inside the main entrance on the ground floor. It is open Monday to Friday from 0800 to 1600 hours.

Robertson Room

The Robertson Room is named after LTGEN Sir Horace Robertson, KBE, CBE, DSO. It is located on the ground floor to the right as you enter the Mess and provides a large function room, alternative bar and assembly area for pre-dinner drinks when the Ante Room is used as a dining room.

TV Room
Small TV room is located on the ground floor off the Robertson Room.
