Introduction to the Mess

Our mess has a long history, dating back to 1848, when, on the 6th August, the 11th Regiment of Foot (The North Devonshire Regiment) marched from Circular Quay to occupy the barracks for the first time. You can read all about everything thats happened since then in a detailed book by Mr John Kreckler, who served in various units from 1936 to 1944, and was later a founding member of the Corps of Guides.

Sadly, Mr Kreckler passed away in July 2002 before completing the book. However Major Craig Youll completed the work and the mess has had it published.

For those intereseted, the book titled A Look at the History of Officers Mess Victoria Barracks 1848 - 2001, can be purchased from the mess office for $10.
