The training at ARTC is very intense and the program typically runs from 0600h until 2200h each day with many lessons and new skills being taught constantly. The recruits have little time for personal administration. However, there is sufficient time allocated where possible for the recruits to call home and stay in touch and they are encouraged to do so during these times.
There will be opportunities for regular contact between the recruits and the families over the phone or via email/letters. However, if something of an urgent nature arises or there is a family emergency you can contact the Platoon Commander on the number shown on the letter that would have been sent out to you just after the recruit's arrival at ARTC. There is also a duty officer on 24 hours a day who can be contacted via mobile phone.
On the last day of the recruit course there will be a march-out parade starting at 1000h. This will be a Friday for full time recruits and Saturday for reserve recruits. All visitors and guests are asked to be seated by 0945h. An information package and letter will be sent out to you well in advance. This will detail the parade and activities and also provide some information on Wagga and accommodation in the region. Feel free to bring as many people as you like. Our only requirement is that you tell us in advance how many you intend to bring so that the staff can cater for everybody.
ARTC has its own fully equipped medical centre staffed by nurses, doctors, physiotherapists, pharmacists and others. If someone receives an injury while at ARTC they are covered by defence and there are excellent facilities both at ARTC and in Wagga. If the injury will effect training the recruit may be placed into Digger James Platoon where they will undergo rehabilitation and recovery if necessary. Once fully fit they will be placed back into training. This may have an effect on their march-out date but this will be communicated to the recruit and family if applicable.
