Role

The role of ASSG is to provide Army and the wider Defence Organisation with Army Reserve personnel who are in a position to undertake short and long term tasks. Such personnel are Active Reserve members posted to the ASSG, Standby Reserve members registered for work via the ASSG and Active Reserve members posted to Army Units who, with the authority of their Commanding Officer, are registered with the ASSG for tasks.

What is the ASSG?

The ASSG is an Army Reserve Unit that is part of DCA Division, AHQ. It is a Direct Command Unit (Directorate) that reports to the COFS, AHQ. The ASSG:

  • provides a supplementary workforce in support of Army and the other Defence Organisation;
  • consists of experienced Active Reserve (AR) and Standby Reserve (SR) Officers, Warrant Officers and Other Ranks;
  • has elements located in all major regional centres, capable of being used anywhere in Australia and on operations;
  • the majority of ASSG members (AR and SR) have previous full-time experience or extensive Active Reserve service.

Interested in Registering with the ASSG

You may be completing your career in the ARA and wish to continue in the Army Reserve as an Active Reserve (AR) member or as a Standby Reserve (SR) member. The ASSG is an Army organisation that allows you to use your previous ARA experience in support of the Army and the wider Defence Organisation. As an ASSG member (AR or SR) you can undertake short or long term tasks such as project tasks, research tasks, field and deployment tasks.

You may be an Active Reserve (AR) member posted to another Army Reserve Unit where, in addition to meeting your Unit responsibilities, you have spare capacity to undertake further work for the Army or the wider Defence Organisation. In this case, with the approval of your Commanding Officer, you are now able to register with the ASSG for ASSG tasks - where the tasking unit pays for the Army Reserve Training Salaries (ARTS).

If you are an ARA member transferring to the Reserve (AR or SR), an existing SR member or an AR member posted to other Units:

  • and are motivated to do more,
  • have accumulated military or civilian knowledge and experience, and
  • have the capacity to take on extra work under Reserve conditions.

The ASSG is looking for you!
