Re-interment
The re-interment of the soldiers recovered from Pheasant Wood commenced on Saturday 30 January 2010
and will continue throughout most of February 2010. This is a joint activity between the Australian and British Armies.
During the re-interment, the cemetery itself is a designated construction zone with access only granted to Commonwealth War Graves Commission authorised personnel. This is necessary for the saftey of all. Although the public will not be able to pay their respects from beside the graves, the re-interments will be able to be viewed from designated public viewing areas just outside the cemetery.
All but one of the recovered soldiers will be re-intered at this time in the Fromelles (Pheasant Wood) Military Cemetery.
The remaining soldier will be re-intered during a public Commemorative Event
on 19 July 2010.
