Questions/comments
1. Your website states that headquarters 11 brigade is the Queensland based army reserve brigade - why does most of it seem to be based in Townsville?
2. Why is the army reserve recruit training 28 days long but the regular army 80 days long? Does this mean that army reservists are not as well trained?
Kind regards
Danielle
WO1 David Brown replies:
Danielle,
Thank You for your enquiry. Firstly, my apologies for not responding to your questions sooner.
In answer to your questions:
The 11th Brigade is spread across Queensland with the Headquarters located in Townsville. The majority of the Brigade is located in South Queensland at the Enoggera Barracks in Brisbane. As well as Brisbane and Townsville, 11 Brigade has various depots across Queensland in locations such as Cairns, Rockhampton, Bundagerg, Toowoomba and more recently Southport (Gold Coast).
The Army Reserve is trained to the same standards as the Regular Army. There is additional training conducted at the individual's parent unit either prior to or post the training conducted at Kapooka. As you are no doubt aware, the Army Reserve is a Part Time career and most Reservists have civilian employment. The 28 day Reserve Recruit Course enables reservists to be released from their civilian work for a shorter period of time with the additional training being conducted over scheduled Tuesday Night or Weekend Parades.
I hope that the above has answered your questions. If you have any further questions in relation to the Army Reserve, please call our Formation Recruiting Liaison Officer, Warrant Officer Class One Andrew Howard on (07) 4411 1072 or 0416 266 797.
