Supercars swapped for supertanks

Tasman Motorsport's Jason Richards and four-time Bathurst winner Greg Murphy swapped their Holden Commodore V8 Supercars for a 1500hp, gas turbine Abrams Tank on Thursday 21 June, as they geared up for the SKYCITY Triple Crown in Darwin this weekend.
While Murphy and Richards will reach speeds of 270km/h on-track at Hidden Valley Raceway, they remained awestruck by the massive tank.
C Squadron members took the drivers on a lap of Robertson Barracks before wishing them well with this weekends race!

Armygeddon in Darwin

The Australian Army's Armygeddon hit the streets of Darwin today in the lead up to the SKYCITY Triple Crown.
The Army V8 Supercar Armygeddon is just one aspect of the Army's contribution to this years races. Abrams Tanks and Heavy Tank Transporters, ASLAVs, M113s, M198 Howitzer, IMVs and an engineer display will all be on show at the entrance to the Hidden Valley racetrack this weekend.

OBG(W)-2 Home

The final group of OBG(W)-2 returned home on Thursday 21 June. OBG(W)-2 carried out more than 300 patrols across the 72-thousand square kilometre area of operations. These patrols included providing security for reconstruction projects, meeting with local leaders, convoy escorts as well as the training and mentoring of the Iraqi Security Forces in Dhi Qar and the neighbouring Al Muthanna province.

1st Brigade

The 1st Brigade is the Australian Army's light armoured brigade consisting of more than 3400 civilian and military personnel.

Based at Robertson Barracks, Palmerston, 20kms south of Darwin in the Northern Territory, 1st Brigade soldiers and families are at the forefront of the Australia's operational commitments around the world.

Currently operational commitments include Iraq, Afghanistan and Timor Leste, most notably are the Brigade commitments to the Overwatch Battle Group (West) and the Force Level Logistics Asset.

The Brigade is also extremely well equipped having recieved the new M1A1 Abrams Tank that arrived in March this year, and preparing for the arrival of the upgraded M113 Armoured Fighting Vehicle in November.
