2007 Chancellor's Cup
The NQARU contested the annual Chancellor's Cup against JCU last night at the JCU campus. It was a very physical encounter that remained tight throughout. In the last 5 minutes JCU were able to put on a try to secure the Cup by 15 - 7. The entire squad developed well during the week and demonstrated concerted tenacity throughout the match. Given the limited preparation period and the absence of a number of key senior players as a result of ASRU and other commitments, it was still a pleasing outcome, particularly from a development perspective.
The starting 22 (drawn from a squad of 35) are listed below. It would be fitting that the efforts of the squad members from your respective units could be recognised at your next 'Sporties' parade and would ask that you consider this.

Commendation Recognition
Sergeant Sharon Louise Smyth
I commend you for your excellent achievement as the Personnel / Registry Sergeant of Headquarters 3rd Brigade.
You took carriage of the Honours and Awards and Commendation submissions for 3rd Brigade and deployed Joint Task Force 631. You spent many long hours reading and re-reading submissions, until all documentation was at an appropriate level, ensuring that only minimal amendments were required from the Brigade's higher headquarters. Your attention to detail is second to none and you dedicated yourself consistently to the highest levels of professionalism. As a direct result of your selfless actions and high calibre performance you directly contributed to the morale and capability of the 3rd Brigade.
You spent many long hours, much of it outside routine duty, to ensure the highest possible level of performance in supporting 3rd Brigade readiness and recognition of service in the Honours and Awards process. This was achieved through superior leadership, selfless dedication to duty and ability to cope with significant additional responsibility. Your efforts are of the highest order and in keeping with the traditions of the Australian Army.

Legacy advise that 3 RAR raised $104,939 on Badge Day. That we beat the 3 RAR record of last year ($102K). Even more remarkable given that both A and B Coys were away. 'Old Faithful' raises the bar again!!
In addition, PTE Daamen (Spt Coy) collected the highest amount (over $1700).

Military Competition
TOWNSVILLE troops are getting out their thermals for the world's toughest military competition in the UK.
Eleven soldiers from the Royal Australian Regiment 2nd Battalion are flying out to Wales on October 18 for Cambrian Patrol International army competition.
They will battle it out against 90 patrol teams, including 12 from overseas armies.
The four-day competition, in the Brecon Beacons mountain range, will test fitness, decision making, navigation, first aid, casualty evacuation and other skill scenarios that involve constant patrolling in steep terrain, often in wet, cloudy and cold conditions.
The 2RAR section is the same section that won this year's Duke of Gloucester Cup at Singleton which decides Australia's best infantry section.
Australians won the Cambrian Patrol Competition when they last competed in 1986. Back then it was 1RAR who bought the trophy home.
Patrol commander Lieutenant Jarrod Brook said the competition usually had a number of suprises for its competitors.
"There's a fair degree of the unknown within the scenarios. You never know what's around the corner and you have to be prepared for anything," LT Brook said.
"We've been training hard for it, concentrating on pack-fitness and hill-fitness, plus water crossings, communication and navigation, just to name a few within a whole range of skills."
But he said the below 20 degree temperatures could be challenging for many of the troops.
The Townsville RSL is backing the team, supporting the soldiers with blazers to be worn at official functions.
