Professor Alan Dupont's recent seminar
The Directorate of Army Research and Analysis, in conjunction with the University of Sydney, was pleased to present Professor Alan Dupont for the latest Changing Character of War seminar entitled 'The Australian Army in the Age of the Dragon' on 1 July 2011.
In this presentation, Professor Dupont analysed the security implications of China's rise as peer competitor of the United States in the Asia Pacific region. The prospect of intensifying competition between Australia's most significant security partner and our most substantial trading partner is likely to shape the formulation of strategic policy for the next decade and beyond. Leading strategic commentators and analysts are sharply divided as to the implications of this rivalry for Australian foreign and defence policy. Professor Alan Dupont assessed the likelihood of conflict in the Western Pacific and draw out the strategic and operational implications specifically for the Australian Army.
Professor Alan Dupont has a unique perspective on Australia's strategic future and the Australian Army's role in ensuring national security. Professor Dupont is a Royal Military College graduate, the foundation Michael Hintze Chair of International Security and the Director of the Centre for International Security Studies at the University of Sydney as well as a Non-Resident Senior Fellow at the Lowy Institute for International Policy. He has served in the Departments of Defence and Foreign Affairs and Trade and has been a member of several government advisory boards. He has researched and published extensively in the areas of Australian defence, national security, force modernisation and Asian security developments.
A sound recording of this seminar will be available shortly from here.
