The Land Warfare Studies Centre (LWSC) is a part of the Directorate of Army Research and Analysis (DARA) and supports the Chief of Army, Army Headquarters and the Army as a whole through a range of research, publication, conference and visiting fellow programs.

The LWSC is tasked to:

• Promote the wider understanding and appreciation of land warfare
• Provide an institutional focus for applied research into the study of land warfare, and
• Raise the level of professionalism and intellectual debate within the Australian Army.

This is achieved by worldwide engagement with renowned research commentators, academic institutions and military agencies.

Key publications produced by the LWSC are:

• The Australian Army Journal
• LWSC Working Papers
• LWSC Study Papers

The general focus of the Centre is exploring the changing character of war, both in its historical context and how such changes will have an impact on the Army of the future. With many longer-term issues, the emphasis is on conceptual rather than empirical research. Greater emphasis is also placed on the importance of land warfare concepts and capabilities within joint and combined contexts.

THE AUSTRALIAN ARMY JOURNAL CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

The Australian Army Journal (AAJ) invites submissions for a special issue on culture and the Australian Army to be published in 2013. The special issue encourages a lively discussion and debate about the meaning, understanding, representation, benefits and ‘problems’ of culture in Army. We encourage contributions from a variety of people including Army and other Defence members, academics, public intellectuals, writers, digital artists and the broader Australian community.
