Concert and Marching Band
Concert Band

The main ensemble in the RMC Band is the Concert Band. This involves every member of the unit and utilises all sections of the band: percussion, tubas, euphoniums, trombones, trumpets, French horns, saxophones, bassoons, clarinets, oboes and flutes.
We often have the use of a piano, bass guitar or string bass and an electric guitar to make up the rhythm section. Added to this can be soloists of any type including vocalists.
This ensemble plays a major role in our ability to perform large concerts. It is the ensemble that performs at Music @ Midday concerts, the concert section of the 1812/Beating Retreat ceremony and any other large concert formation.
The repertoire for this ensemble is large and extensive. In fact there are very few pieces of music that cannot be adapted for the concert band. We often play orchestral transcriptions but there are also many composers and arrangers who write specifically for this ensemble. We perform anything from movie themes to modern vocal charts, ballet music to musicals!
Marching Band

| Staff Cadet |
The RMC Band Marching Band supports the Staff Cadets at the Royal Military College with every parade. This may be in the form of a Commanding Officer's Parade or their main Graduation Parades which occur at the college twice a year. The other major Marching Band performance at the college is as part of the Beating Retreat ceremony which occurs in September each year.
It is heavily utilised for Guest of Government activities at Parliament House or RAAF Base Fairbairn and welcoming the many International Defence Chiefs visiting Russell Offices.
The RMC Marching Band is also the Official Band for Government House, Yarralumla.
