Duntroon Brass

CPL Aaron Madden

Aaron is a member of one of Australia's greatest dynasties of brass musicians. His grandfather, Dudley, was a former Army bandsman who became a trombonist with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. Trumpeter Glenn Madden, Aaron's father and teacher, was for 35 years with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, spending 15 years as principal trumpet and was musical director of Elizabeth City Brass Band for 10 years. Aaron's brother, Richard, is associate principal trumpet with the Queensland Orchestra. Aaron, having become junior cornet champion of South Australia, chose to follow in his grandfather's footsteps and join the Australian Army Band Corps. He is currently a section-leader (trumpet) in the Band of the Royal Military College Duntroon. He has been honoured by the award of the "Soldier's Medallion" in recognition of his significant contribution to musical performance in the Australian Army. He is principal trumpet with the 'Duntroon Brass' Quintet, the Army's most prestigious brass chamber group and has performed with the RMC Band in Bougainville, East Timor, Solomon Islands, Great Britain and Turkey. He has also conducted the RMC Wind Ensemble, including a performance of Stravinsky's challenging "Octet for Wind Instruments". In 2004 he participated in Symphony Australia's conductor development program and is recognised as an emerging talent in the areas of Brass Band training and musical arrangement. He was also the music director of the Hall Village Brass Band from 2004 to 2008. Aaron has recently finished his performance element in Bachelor of Music receiving a high distinction studying under trumpeter Daniel Mendelow (Principal trumpet, SSO). He is now finishing of his academic component for his BMus.
