ARMY Other Rank Applicant

Eligibility & Entry Criteria
  • Must be a serving ARA/ARES soldier

Age:

  • 17 to 45.5 years of age, older candidates can not be accepted due to economic constraints

Education:

  • Passes in Year 12 English & Maths (NSW Level 2 or QLD Maths B equivalent; Social Maths not acceptable)
  • Passes in 2 other academic subjects, Physics is desirable but not essential
  • A pass in Year 10 Science if Physics not studied in Year 12

Physical:

  • AIRN compliant
  • Completed an aircrew medical (AVMED approved PM532)
  • Not of abnormal build (Max Height 193cm, Max Height sitting 92cm-95cm (upper limit), Max Length Buttocks to Heel 122cm and Max length Buttocks to Knee 67cm, Min height 163cm)
  • Good hearing & eyesight
  • Glasses may be acceptable for minor vision correction

Avenues of Entry - Direct

ADFA/RMC General Service Officer (GSO Avn Cadetship)Special Service Officer Pilot (SSO Pilot)
  • "Career officer", able to compete for promotion to the highest rank in due course
  • Pre-selected for pilot training prior to commencing ADFA/RMC
  • 3 years training at ADFA and 12 months at RMC, Duntroon,
  • 18 months training at RMC for RMC only entry,
  • "Career aviator", likely to be limited to rank of Captain
  • 32 days training at RMC broken into two 16 day blocks
  • Pre-selected for pilot training prior to commencing RMC Army Specialist Service Officer Pilot Scheme (Defweb Only)

Enclose the following with your application:

  • A certified true copy of your HSC/Year 12 Board of Studies transcript (must detail subject results),
  • A HANDWRITTEN statement addressing the following selection criteria:
    • why you want to be a military pilot,
    • why you believe you would make a good pilot,
    • how you are able to demonstrate motivation towards becoming a pilot
  • your two most recent PAR and/or platoon commander notebook reports (if you have been reported on),
  • certified true copy of relevant extracts of your flying log book (if you have previous flying experience); and
  • certified true copy transcripts of any tertiary qualifications held, and
  • any other documentation that supports your case (eg course reports, commendations)

Attend Local DFRC

  • Aptitude Tests
  • Aircrew Medical

Attend the Flight Screening Program (FSP)

  • Selection for the FSP is by 'paperboard' in competition with other applicants
  • Run by the ADF Pilot Selection Agency (ADFPSA), Tamworth, NSW
  • Involves 2 weeks flying to assess candidates potential to successfully complete ADF Pilot Training

Sit a Selection Board

  • Upon completion of FSP, a tri-service officer selection board ascertains your suitability for military flying training

Posting to Pilot Training

  • GSO: Commence ADFA/RMC with cohort intake
  • SSO: Commence RMC
Return of Service ObligationNon-Reduction Allowance
