The HNDLR PETRL is an Army Reserve soldier who is responsible for the deployment, construction, operation and maintenance of a range of petroleum, oils and lubricants (POL), storage and handling facilities. This includes the operation of 40/50 mm field and static POL equipment at kerbside refueling points, the limited testing and analysis of POL products, and the storage, packaging and disposal of Dangerous Goods (DG), including hazardous materials, but excluding DG Class 1 (Ammunition and Explosives).
The HNDLR PETRL is to operate and manage a limited range of POL equipment and products.

DutiesPay
  • Is responsible for the management and maintenance of all section equipment and finance which includes a POL forecasting and budgeting role of operations.
  • Is responsible for preparation of servicing documentation and the undetaking of minor financial roles when deployed on operation or exercises.
  • Is responsible for the design and conduct of on-the-job training to ensure all allocated personnel remain current with safety procedures, legislative amendments and changes in equipment.

TrainingPosting

IET HNDLR PETRL Module 1 and 2 Course: 16 days each conducted at ALTC, Bandiana, Victoria.

The HNDLR PETRL is an ARes soldier employed in first and second line Combat Service Support units throughout the Army.

Education RequirementsCivil Accreditation

Completion of Australian Year nine education (or equivalent) with passes in English and Mathematics.

The accreditation for this employment is currently under review.

Transfers into EmploymentReturn of Service Obligation (ROSO)

All applicants for trade transfer to this category are to undergo a Psychological Review where it would be identified if additional psychological assessment may be required. Personnel must not suffer from claustrophobia. Potential lateral enlistees assessed with appropriate qualifications, generally enter the employment category stream at a prescribed rank and will normally be required to undertake some form of refresher training prior to appointment. Ab-initio and category transfers will generally enter to category stream at the Initial Employment Training (IET) level and be required to complete the IET Courses. Category transferees who hold rank prior to a transfer will generally be required to revert to PTE upon successful completion of IET, however each category is to assess the individual on their merits.

A soldier may elect to trade transfer to this employment category. If a soldier elects to trade transfer to this category, a Return of Service Obligation (ROSO) is required. The length of ROSO for both trade transfer and other category training is in the Chief of Army Determination on ROSO (Army Schedule) on the DGPERS-A website, (DefWeb only). If a member has an existing ROSO from prior training, this ROSO may be served concurrently. Defence policy on ROSO is in DI (G) PERS 33-2 Return of Service Obligation.
