General Information on Service in SF

Service in the Special Forces is open to volunteers from any service of the Australian Defence Force including any Corps of the Australian Regular Army (ARA) and Army Reserve (ARes).

To be eligible to apply for entry, a soldier must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a volunteer.
  • Have completed recruit training and Initial Employment Training (IET).
  • Have reached the minimum age requirement.
  • Be assessed as psychologically suitable.
  • Be assessed by a Medical Officer (MO) as Medical Employment Classification One (MEC1) including a specialist classification for parachuting as P1.
  • Volunteer for parachute training or be a qualified parachutist.
  • Have a high level of physical and mental fitness and completed the minimum physical entrance requiremenst for service in SF.
