Warrant Officer Brad Doyle OAM
On 8 July 2026, Warrant Officer Brad Doyle commenced his appointment as the 13th Regimental Sergeant Major - Army.
Warrant Officer Brad Doyle enlisted into the Army Reserve in 1986, whilst completing an Automotive Mechanic apprenticeship. Having received his trade qualification, he transferred to the Australian Regular Army into the Royal Australian Infantry Corps.
Warrant Officer Doyle served as a soldier in the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment, becoming a Parachute Jump Master in the Parachute Battalion Group. He then posted as a Recruit Instructor to the 1st Recruit Training Battalion and subsequently as a Platoon Sergeant in 6th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment, where he deployed to East Timor with the Australian Training Support Team – East Timor, and then again with WESTBATT. Following this deployment, he posted as an Instructor and a Drill Sergeant to the Royal Military College - Duntroon, the Army Officer Training College.
On promotion to Warrant Officer Class Two, Warrant Officer Doyle posted as a Training Warrant Officer and Operations Warrant Officer to the 11th/28th Battalion, The Royal Western Australia Regiment, and then posted back to the 6th Battalion as a Company Sergeant Major where he deployed to Afghanistan with Mentoring Task Force – One. In 2013, he posted as the Warrant Officer Drill and Ceremonial of tri-service officer training at the Australian Defence Force Academy.
In 2014, Warrant Officer Doyle promoted to Warrant Officer Class One. He has held the Regimental Sergeant Major appointments of the 1st/19th Battalion, The Royal New South Wales Regiment; 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment; Training Task Unit, Task Group Taji – Five, Iraq; the Combat Training Centre; the 1st Combat Brigade; and as the Command Sergeant Major of Forces Command. He has also been a Career Manager for the Royal Australian Infantry Corps at the Directorate of Soldier Career Management – Army and served in the Chief of Army’s Initiatives Group, where the small group supports the Chief of Army in strategic thinking.
Academically, Warrant Officer Doyle successfully completed the Command and Staff Course at the Australian War College, where he gained a broader understanding of strategy, capability development, joint operational planning, as well as the theory and nature of command, leadership and ethics. He is a graduate of the Keystone Course at the United States National Defence University, for the development of Command Senior Enlisted Leaders in Joint and Coalition General Officer Command Teams.
Warrant Officer Doyle has been awarded the Army Bronze Commendation for Recruit Instruction in 2000, the Meritorious Unit Citation for Mentoring Task Force – One in 2011 and the Medal for the Order of Australia in the 2019 Australia Day Honours. He is a progressive thinker who strives to make Army a place where people feel valued, included and have the desire to continue serving in the pursuit of professional excellence, adventure and mateship.
Valuing the importance of family, Warrant Officer Doyle and his wife Liza, a former New South Wales police officer and prosecutor, take every opportunity to travel and experience the wealth of foreign cultures and support their extended family together. He still enjoys rugby union, as a former player and former manager/coach of the Australian Army Women’s team, and loves tinkering with his muscle cars and motorcycle.
