FAQ

Listed below are answers to a number of common questions we are asked. Please review them before giving us a call. Also have a look at our brochure which may answer some of you questions.

Update my contact details

There are 2 options available for you to update your contact details:
1. Complete the AD826 SERCAT 2/3 Annual Contact Details and Health Declaration. Send completed forms to standby.reserve [at] defence.gov.au for processing, or;
2. Send an email containing updated personal contact details to standby.reserve [at] defence.gov.au.

Find reserve work opportunities

Reserve work can be found by:
1. Registering with ForceNet to view current Reserve employment opportunities. When registered, join the Directorate of Contingent Workforce Management – Army (DCWM-A) group to be kept informed of news applicable to SERCAT 2 and 3.
In order to register successfully your contact details must be up to date on PMKeyS. DCWM-A can assist with updating your contact information; please send the details to standby.reserve [at] defence.gov.au.
When looking at current vacancies, do not limit yourself to Army opportunities alone.
2. Remaining in SERCAT 3 permits career advisors to contact you to seek your availability in backfilling capability gaps.
3. DCWM-A may send out emails seeking expressions of interest for high priority tasks.
4. Your informal network can be a means of obtaining work.

Start working utilising reserve days on DA26

SERCAT 3 members can be employed on a DA26 for up to 12 months within a financial year.
It is the responsibility of the employing unit to submit the DA26 paperwork at least 21 days prior to the employment commencement date, to allow for processing.
Medical requirements prior to undertaking DA26 employment
1. The member must have an in-date medical examination (conducted in the last 5 years) before the delegate will approve employment under a DA26 agreement.
2. The member is to have a MEC classification of J1 or J2 to be eligible for employment under a DA26 agreement.
3. The delegate may approve employment by exception for MEC categories J31, J33, J42, L27 and L28. However, for Delegate approval to occur the tasking sponsor must declare that they are aware of medical restrictions and will ensure that employment is within those restrictions.
4. The delegate cannot approve a DA26 application for J40 (pending MECRB determination).
5. The member will need to organise a medical appointment at their local Defence health facility. The medical centre will request your medical documents as ADF Health Records will not send medical documents to individuals, only to health facilities.

Important Information
1. Members are not to commence work under a DA26 agreement until approval has been received in writing from DCWM-A.
2. Retrospective DA26 applications will not be approved.
3. Initial DA26 agreements cannot be in excess of 100 days.

Please note, you will not be paid for any work performed prior to DCWM-A approving the DA26.

Extend the number of reserve days I can perform

If you are working on a DA26 and require an allocation of ARTD beyond your initial 100 days, the employing unit will need to complete a Request for Army Reserve Training Day (ARTD) Extension up to XXX Days.
Completed applications should then be submitted to standby.reserve [at] defence.gov.au for consideration.
Important: You must cease work once you have reached the 100 ARTD allocation. Do not recommence employment until written approval is provided by Career Management – Army.

Claim the Health Support Allowance benefit

The introduction of the Defence Regulation 2016 enables SERCAT 3 members that have completed 20 days of effective service during the financial year to apply for the Health Support Allowance (HSA).
To apply for the HSA you will need to complete the AE585 – Reserve Health Declaration.
HSA can be submitted in one of two ways:
1. If you are conducting Reserve work on a DA26, and have completed the required days, you can submit your application via your employing unit; or
2. If your DA26 contract has ceased, the application can be submitted to standby.reserve [at] defence.gov.au

Obtain a copy of my ADO service record

Requests for ADO service records can be sent to standby.reserve [at] defence.gov.au, and must include the following information to assist us in identifying you:
 Rank and full name
 PMKEYS
 Date of birth
The ADO service record will be emailed to your personal email address.
