Gap Year participants march out of Kapooka
Director General of Personnel – Army, Brigadier Peter Daniel reviewed the parade of 45 Gap Year participants as they marched before friends and family.
Brigadier Daniel praised the commitment and dedication of the Gap Year participants.
“I am delighted to be here with you today to recognise the achievements of Army’s Gap Year contingent,” Brigadier Daniel said.
“Over the last 12 weeks, you have been tested above and beyond anything you have done before. You have been challenged both physically and mentally, all while being away from the support of your friends and family.”
“You have mastered the core skills required of a soldier including navigation, basic weapons training and key military knowledge and skills, rising to meet these challenges as a team.”
“It is a pleasure to see how far you have come. I congratulate you all on your achievements and wish you the best of luck as you embark on the next stage of your Gap Year journey.”
Brigadier Daniel also thanked families and friends for their support.
“I would like to thank the friends and families here today for the support you have given our Gap Year participants,” Brigadier Daniel said.
“Without your ongoing encouragement they would not have this exciting opportunity. You should be very proud of everything they have achieved.”
Army’s first contingent of Gap Year participants marched out of the Army Recruit Training Centre on Friday, 3 April 2015. More groups will complete their initial recruit training over the coming weeks before going on to complete their trade specific training at locations around the country. This training will prepare them for their posting to Army units later this year where they will contribute to Army’s activities around Australia.
