ADF counter-terrorism training in Sydney and Wollongong, NSW, from late-April through May 2018

Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel will conduct water-based counter-terrorism training in Sydney Harbour, on Sydney’s northern beaches and Wollongong’s Port Kembla from late-April until the end of May 2018.

The training will be conducted during the day and night and involves responses to simulated terrorist scenarios at Defence sites across Sydney Harbour and some civilian infrastructure.

The public should not be alarmed if they see or hear military watercraft, vehicles and military personnel carrying weapons and using blank gunfire and pyrotechnics.

People who see the training should not be concerned that any of the locations are under any form of actual threat.

Training such as this helps to ensure Australia remains among the best counter-terrorism response capabilities in the world.

The ADF is unable to provide media access or further information, including specific timings, regarding this training in order to protect operational tactics, techniques and procedures. Individuals with concerns should contact the Defence Switchboard: 1300 333 362.
