Celebrate an Army recruit's achievement in the March-out Parade
Families and friends of an Army recruit who has completed their training at the 1st Recruit Training Battalion (1RTB), are invited to attend the March-out Parade.
The event marks the completion of the Army recruit's training and is a proud occasion for soldiers and their loved ones.
March-out Parades are held every Friday from February to December and typically runs for 60 minutes.
Guests
Only guests registered by the recruit will be granted access. Visitors not listed on the registration list will be turned away.
The parade starts at 9:30 am. Guests must arrive at the visitor car park by 8:30 am and be seated at least 15 minutes prior to the event. Seating is unreserved, except for the central sections which are reserved for staff and official guests.
All invited guests will receive an email with details about the recruit's March-out Parade. For special requirements, including accessibility arrangements, reply to the email invitation.
For those who are unable to attend, the event will be available via live stream on the Sharp Shop Images website.
Arrival
Location: 1RBT, Blamey Barracks, Gabuga, Kapooka.
1RTB is located 10 km from Wagga Wagga and 20 km from Wagga Wagga Airport. There are no bus services to Kapooka, however taxis are available.
Plan your arrival time carefully:
- from Wagga Wagga allow 15 minutes
- from the airport allow 25 minutes.
There is no luggage storage available at the front gate or on base. Travel light or drop bags off at accommodation before arrival.
Parking and transport
Civilian vehicles are not permitted inside the barracks. Signage and traffic control will guide guests to the visitor car park near the Kapooka picnic area.
All visitors, including serving Australian Defence Force members, must use the shuttle bus provided to access the parade ground. Identification is required for individuals aged 18 years and above.
All guests must be parked in the visitor car park no later than 8:30 am to catch the shuttle bus. Prams and wheelchairs are accommodated on the bus.
After the parade
Refreshments and speeches
Light refreshments and speeches will be held at the Edmondson VC Club between 10:30 am and 12:00 pm, where families reunite with recruits.
Shuttle buses will transport guests to the Edmondson VC Club at the conclusion of the parade. Shuttle buses will transport guests back to the visitor car park following refreshments.
Local leave and transport
At the conclusion of refreshments, recruits are required to complete several tasks prior to local leave. Recruits will be transported to the Wagga Wagga train station not before 1:00 pm.
Local leave will commence from 1:00 pm on Friday and conclude 1:00 pm on Sunday. During this time, trainees are not permitted to travel beyond 50 km from Wagga Wagga. They must cease the consumption of alcohol by 10:00 pm on Saturday evening and are not permitted to get a tattoo or any body piercing.
Optional activities
- Sunday Chapel Services: services begin at 9:00 am. Arrive at the visitor carpark by 8:30 am. Shuttle buses will transport guests to the Chapel. If planning to attend, provide details to the recruit in advance.
- Kapooka Historical Collection: this museum is open to all visitors on March-out days only and is located near the Edmondson VC Club.
Cancellations and delays
Training delays or injuries may affect a recruit's eligibility to March-out. These delays can occur at short notice. It is strongly recommended to:
- book refundable travel and accommodation
- consider travel insurance.
Defence is not responsible for costs due to changes in March-out eligibility.
