Hazard reduction burn

Prescribed hazard reduction burns will be conducted across the Canungra Field Training Area (Kokoda Barracks) which will generate smoke over the period 19 August 2025 to 28 August 2025. 

A smoke haze may be evident for days after the burn.

People with respiratory conditions are encourage to avoid the area and remain indoors if possible.

In accordance with State Legislation, planned hazard reduction burns are conducted for a range of purposes including:


•    Reducing the likelihood and severity of bushfires on the training area and surrounding areas.
•    Improving the ecosystems health and resilience.


The Australian Defence Force thanks the public for their patience and cooperation while this essential activity is being conducted.
