Australian Army personnel will conduct Operation MULGA at Robertson Barracks, Northern Territory over the period 5 to 14 August 2026, as part of Exercise Pozieres Run currently underway in Townsville, Queensland.

The training will involve enhanced security activities, including vehicle checkpoints at base entry points, simulated protest scenarios, and military personnel carrying weapons as part of training activities. Blank ammunition may also be used during the exercise.

Activities will be conducted within Robertson Barracks and are designed to test and enhance force protection, security, and operational readiness procedures.

Visitors entering Robertson Barracks may be required to stop at security checkpoints and, with consent, participate in routine vehicle inspections as part of the training.

Members of the public may notice an increased military presence and hear louder than usual noise associated with blank-fire activities and should not be alarmed.

Every effort will be made to minimise disruption to base access and operations, and the Australian Defence Force thanks the community for its patience and cooperation.

This essential training is vital to maintaining and enhancing Australia's military capability and preparedness.
