Anzac Day Video Message from Chief of Army, 21 April 2023

21 April 2023

Transcript

Each year, we come together on Anzac Day to commemorate the service and sacrifice of Australians over more than a century of service to our nation.

We pause to pay tribute to the more than 102,000 Australians who have died in war and in other operations and we recognize the more than two and a half million Australians who also served, and were willing to sacrifice their lives for something larger than themselves.

Our Army has a long history as a national institution and remains an important part of our national story.

Many veterans and current serving soldiers will participate in commemorative events across the country alongside family and alongside friends. They will be sharing our story of service and sacrifice and honouring those who have come before us.

Australians continue to serve our Army for a shared sense of business. To be part of something that matters.

Our history shapes who we are today and understanding our history helps us engage with the challenges of our nation's future.

Today I offer my respect and gratitude to those who have served our nation throughout our history, to those who serve today, and importantly we come together to remember those who gave everything, and their families, and their mates.

Lest we forget.
