Lieutenant General Gavan Reynolds, AO

Gav Reynolds is a career Army officer. His operational service includes the First Gulf War, as a military observer with the United Nations in Lebanon and Syria, a senior intelligence officer in the

Australian Joint Task Force Iraq and in the intelligence staff of the Headquarters International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan. He has also commanded the 1st Intelligence Battalion and the 6th Combat Support Brigade. The 6th Combat Support Brigade includes intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance units and force level engineers.

Gav has held numerous staff appointments including in the Defence Intelligence Organisation and as the Director of Officer Career Management and Director General Personnel for the Army. He was appointed as an officer to the Order of Australia in 2022 for distinguish service in senior planning and leadership positions.

Staff course attendance includes the Australian Staff College, the Australian Centre for Defence and

Strategic Studies, and the Higher Command and Staff Course in the United Kingdom. Gav holds a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Geography, Master of Defence Studies and a Master of Business Administration.

In the rank of Major General he has served as the Australian Military Representative to NATO and the EU, and as the Head Military Strategic Plans. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General in June 2020 and appointed Chief of Defence Intelligence and the Director of Defence Intelligence Organisation.
