Warrant Officer Gary Anderson

On 10 January 2022, Warrant Officer Gary Anderson commenced his appointment as the 2nd Joint Capabilities Group Warrant Officer.

Warrant Officer Gary Anderson was born in Mt. Newman, Western Australia and educated in Toowoomba, Queensland. Warrant Officer Anderson initially enlisted in the Australian Army as a Signaler Artillery, before transferring to the Royal Australian Air Force as a Signals Operator in 1994.

After completing recruit and initial employment training, he was posted to the Defence Signals Directorate in Canberra. Follow-on postings included the Air Transportable Telecommunications Unit and Shoal Bay Receiving Station.

In 2001, WOFF Anderson was selected for a posting to the United Kingdom and employed in the RAFs Air Warfare Centre, within the Electronic Reconnaissance Operations Support Squadron (EROSS), supporting 51Squadron Nimrod-R1 ISREW operations. Upon return to Australia, he was posted to JEWOSU where he undertook the role of Senior Analyst within the Technical Intelligence section supporting ISREW operations. He also undertook instructional roles was involved with the development of Air Force intelligence deployed support teams and operational reach-back support concepts. WOFF Anderson also conducted training development roles and ISREW project and evaluation activities.

Warrant Officer Anderson has also been employed within Headquarters Information Warfare Wing in a Capability Development role. Such activities included; Trial JAISREE (pre-cursor to DGS-AUS and 83SQN), Heron EW Force Preparation training development and SME advice to Projects CORONIS, CASPER and ARGO.

In 2013, he remained at Information Warfare Wing as the Wing Warrant Officer and inaugural Air Intelligence Analyst (AIA) Mustering Capability Advisor, where he was responsible for the transition of the Signals Operator (Linguist), Signals Operator (Technical), Security Police (Counter-Intelligence) and Geospatial-Imagery Analyst Musterings to the newly established AIA Mustering.

In 2017, WOFF Anderson posted to the Air and Space Operations Centre as the Intelligence Manager and Unit Warrant Officer. During this period he deployed as the Air Task Group Warrant Officer and returned to take up the position of Command Warrant Officer, Headquarters Joint Operations Command until December 2021.

Warrant Officer Anderson has been awarded an Air Force Silver (ACAUST) level commendation and coached the Air Force rugby union side from 2007-2010.

WOFF Anderson is married to Cathy who is a Nurse. He has two mature aged step-children and a teenage son. Outside of work he enjoys Landscaping, Rugby Union, Rugby League and Cricket and is a proud ‘one-eyed’ Queenslander.
