Major General Kathryn Campbell, AO, CSC
Major General Campbell was born in Toowoomba, Queensland and was appointed into the Australian Army in in 1989. She was commissioned through the Officer Cadet Training Unit at 2 Training Group NSW in 1990.
Major General Campbell was allocated to the Royal Australian Signals Corps and undertook her junior officer appointments within both Land Command and Training Command units. This included the 8th Signal Regiment, HQ 2nd Division, 2 Training Group and Sydney University Regiment (SUR). Key appointments during this period included OC ANU Company SUR, OC Main Division Signal Squadron 8 Signal Regiment and RSO 1st/19th Royal New South Wales Regiment.
Major General Campbell served as the Commanding Officer of SUR from 2007 to 2009. As a lieutenant colonel she also served in DOCM-A and as the Chief Instructor/Chief of Staff Reserve at the Australian Command and Staff College. As a colonel she served in DGCM-A and Headquarters 5 Brigade.
Major General Campbell commanded the 5th Brigade from 2014 to 2016, subsequently deploying to the Middle East Region as the Deputy Commander JTF 633 in 2016. In 2017 she assumed the role of Assistant Commander, 2nd Division.
Major General Campbell was awarded the Conspicuous Service Cross in the 2010 Queen’s Birthday Honours List for her service as Commanding Officer of SUR. Major General Campbell was appointed as an Officer of the Order of Australia in the General Division in the 2019 Australia Day Honours List for her service to public administration and the Australian Army Reserve.
Major General Campbell assumed command of the 2nd Division in December 2018.
Major General Campbell holds a Bachelor of Applied Science, a Master of Information Science from the University of NSW (ADFA Campus) and a Master of Business Administration.
In her civilian career Major General Campbell is a senior Commonwealth public servant.
