Regimental Sergeant Major – 1st Division and the Deployable Joint Force Headquarters
Warrant Officer Class One Michael Landy, OAM
Warrant Officer Class One Michael Landy commenced his appointment as Regimental Sergeant Major of the 1st Division and the Deployable Joint Force Headquarters on 18 January 2021.
Warrant Officer Landy was born and educated in Far North Queensland and enlisted into the Australian Regular Army in March 1989. He has held a variety of regimental and instructional appointments in both training and land command units throughout his career.
Promoted to Warrant Officer Class One in 2010, Warrant Officer Landy has held the appointment of Regimental Sergeant Major of the 31st/42nd Battalion, The Royal Queensland Regiment, the 7th Battalion, the Royal Australian Regiment, Combat Training Centre – Live and the 1st Brigade.
Warrant Officer Landy has been fortunate to see operational service as a Section Commander in Rwanda with the 2nd/4th Battalion Company Group on Operation TAMAR, as part of the United Nations; Rifle Platoon Sergeant in East Timor with the 2nd Battalion Group on Operation WARDEN, as part of International Force East Timor; Company Sergeant Major of Combat Team Sabre in Iraq with the 5th Battalion Battle Group on Operation CATALYST; Sergeant Major Training at the Counterinsurgency Academy in Afghanistan as part of Operation SLIPPER, mentoring and training both coalition and the Afghan forces in Counterinsurgency Tactics, Techniques and Procedures and Regimental Sergeant Major of the 7th Battalion Task Group in Afghanistan on Operation SLIPPER.
In addition to service and campaign medals, Warrant Officer Class One Landy has also been awarded Commander 1st Division Silver Commendation, Commander 2nd Division Bronze Commendation, United States Bronze Star Medal and Medal of the Order of Australia.
Warrant Officer Landy is also a qualified Fitter and Turner after completing his apprenticeship at Mossman Central Mill in 1987.
