Warrant Officer Class One Darren Murch hails from Adelaide and enlisted into the Australian Army in September 1986. 
 
After completing Recruit Training, he was allocated to the Royal Australian Infantry Corps. On completion of Infantry Initial Employment Training he was posted to the 1st Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment. Warrant Officer Class One Murch has served in every leadership position from section commander to Regimental Sergeant Major during numerous postings that include the 1st, 3rd and 7th Brigades. Within the 2nd Division, he has served in the 12th/40th Battalion, Royal Tasmania Regiment and 8th/7th Battalion, Royal Victoria Regiment. 
 
Warrant Officer Class One Murch has enjoyed various instructional assignments including: the School of Infantry, Battle Wing Tully, as the Course Sergeant Major of Subject One Corporal and as an international instructor at the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy. Additionally, he has fulfilled staff positions in the 1st Division/Deployable Joint Force Headquarters within the J3 and J5 Branches and in the Future Land Warfare Directorate, Army Headquarters.  
 
Warrant Officer Class One Murch’s regimental appointments include: Regimental Sergeant Major of 8th/7th Battalion, Royal Victoria Regiment; 1st Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment; the School of Infantry and 16th Aviation Brigade. He was appointed as the Regimental Sergeant Major 2nd Division in December 2019.
 
His overseas assignments include: Brunei and the United States of America and has deployed to East Timor as a Company Sergeant Major with AUSBATT VII in 2002/03 and Afghanistan as the Regimental Sergeant Major of Mentoring and Reconstruction Task Force 2 in 2009/10.
 
Warrant Officer Class One Murch’s awards and decorations include the Soldier’s Medallion for Exemplary Service presented in 2004, the Medal of the Order of Australia awarded in the 2012 Australia Day Awards and the United States Army Meritorious Service Medal awarded in 2017.   
 
Warrant Officer Class One Murch’s military education includes the Capstone Course, the Joint Warrant Officer Course, the United States Army Sergeants Major Course and the Master Resilience Trainer Course. He has completed a Certificate IV in Occupational Health and Safety and in 2019 completed a Bachelor of Organisational Leadership with the University of New England. He is currently studying a Masters of Strategic People Management with the University of New South Wales. 
 
Warrant Officer Class One Murch enjoys travel, writing about contemporary leadership practices and outdoor activities.
