Australian Army Band Melbourne
The Australian Army Band Melbourne has been at the forefront of military and ceremonial band music in Victoria since 1940. During that time it has become an integral part of Melbourne, sharing in every part of the growing city’s life as well as promoting Army to all regional areas of the state.
This distinguished group of Army reserve musicians maintains a high standard of performance in its primary roles of providing support for ceremonial activities and to promote the image of the Australian Army to the wider community. The band has the capability to provide a jazz ensemble, rock band, woodwind quintet and a saxophone quintet.
In January 2014, the band transitioned from a regular Army band to a regional reserve band under the management of three full time cadre staff. As this is a significant reform within the Army band structure, the band has been approved to recruit to an establishment of 40 part time musicians. At full strength the band will have the capability to provide a diverse range of musical ensembles from concert and parade bands, to smaller ensembles such as big band, jazz ensemble, rock band, woodwind and brass quintets, and a fanfare team.
