Future of Army

The Australian Army has a range of strategic documents that form the Australian Army’s capstone documents. These provide the shared understanding of how Army contributes to the Australian Defence Force and National Security. The Army is currently developing updated capstone documents in line with the Defence Strategic Review 2023.

Army’s Contribution to Defence Strategy, Edition Two is the Army’s response to the 2020 Defence Strategic Update and the 2020 Force Structure Plan. The document aims to create shared understanding of how Army contributes to the Australian Defence Force and national security objectives of shaping Australia’s strategic environment, deterring actions against our interests and, when required, responding with credible military force.

Accelerated Warfare

Accelerated Warfare is Army’s context for developing its contribution to the Australian Defence Force and National Security. It describes changes occurring in global, regional and domestic operating environments which are occurring faster than many of Army’s processes, concepts, capabilities and structures can tolerate.

Army In motion is the central idea in response to Accelerated Warfare. It outlines how the Australian Army can focus on people, preparedness, profession, potential and partnerships to ensure the Army is ready now and future ready.

Good Soldiering

Good Soldering is Army’s cultural optimisation initiative. It is focused on fostering an organisational culture that solidifies trust in our Army as a profession. Good Soldiering promotes an enduring culture of optimal performance as individuals, teams and One Army.
