About
The Australian Army Museum Puckapunyal collects, preserves and exhibits the history of the Royal Australian Armoured Corps and the Royal Australian Artillery. The museum collection ranges from Boer War, World War I, World War II and the Vietnam War through to current deployments overseas.
Admission to the museum is free.
Opening hours
The museum is open:
- Tuesday 10 am to 3 pm
- Thursday 10 am to 3 pm
The Defence community is not required to make a booking. Those with a Defence Common Access Card, and those they are escorting, are welcome to attend the museum at any point during our standard operating hours.
Public access, both individual and group, is by appointment only.
Public access bookings are per vehicle, not per visitor.
- Single bookings (one vehicle, multiple passengers): minimum 1 week advance booking is required and time slots are limited. Book via Eventbrite.
- Group bookings (buses or multiple vehicles): minimum 2 weeks notice by email to aahu.amp@defence.gov.au (do not use Eventbrite for bookings). Please include the following in your booking request email:
- A contact phone number.
- Preferred visit date.
- The vehicle registration number.
- A list outlining all passenger names and government-issued identification numbers for each person (e.g. Driver’s License numbers).
Please note that group bookings are not confirmed until you receive a booking confirmation email.
To gain access to the Puckapunyal Base to visit the museum, all public access visitors 16 years and over are required to bring the following:
- (Per vehicle) Evidence of booking confirmation (printed ticket/QR code or confirmation email of group booking).
- (Per person) Government-issued photographic identification in English.
- (Per person) Confirmation email stating each visitor has completed the National Base Induction before arrival.
Conditions of entry to the Puckapunyal Military Area
Access to the Puckapunyal Military Area base is dependent on the following restrictions.
Photographic identification
All visitors aged 16 years and older must provide current, non-electronic, government-issued photographic identification (driver's licence, passport, proof of age card).
Bush fire danger
The Puckapunyal Military Area Base is located in a high bush-fire danger area. During Extreme or Code Red Fire Danger Rating days, only essential personnel will be allowed base access.
The general public will not be able to gain access to the Army Museum, Puckapunyal on Extreme or Code Red Fire Danger Rating days.
Base security alert level
The Puckapunyal Military Area base is subject to Defence SAFEBASE security alert system restrictions. As such, visitor vehicles may be searched by security before entry and or the base may go into a lockdown. Furthermore, during days in which the security alert level has been raised, only essential personnel will be given base access.
During base lockdowns and Security Alert Level Red days the general public will not be able to gain access to the Army Museum, Puckapunyal.
